The Bakery
Wicklow Town.

I have eaten in The Bakery in Wicklow town on a few occasions and have always had good meals but these have often been spoiled by the waiting staff taking too long to serve it. Since we live quite near Wicklow we have accepted this and still continue to go there because it is quite convenient. We went there recently with a party of six and once again what could have been a good dining experience was spoiled by the slow service.
We got there at half past eight and were given menus to look at but my husband had to go to the reception desk after a while to get a wine list since we had not been given one and because we could not catch the eye of any of the waitresses passing by. I know this is not a major complaint but it did set the tone for the evening. We were eating downstairs which is the bistro the restaurant is upstairs. Downstairs has a menu where you can eat two courses for £18 or three courses for £22 and you can also choose from the restaurant menu which is priced per dish. Most of the starters are priced between 5 and £8 and main courses go up to 20, so it is easy to spend quite a lot of money.

I do not mind spending 30 per person as both my husband and I have good jobs and we like eating out but I cannot understand why a busy restaurant does not have enogh people to serve the customers quickly. It was nearly 40 minutes before we got our starters and the wait between the courses was also very long. Surely a busy restaurant that charges quite a lot of money should have enough staff?

The food was good as always and I have no complaints about that and the inside is attractive with the old baking ovens and brickwork still there. I just think that Wicklow could have a very good restaurant with the Bakery if they could improve the service.
