Peacock Alley
St. Stephen's Green, Dublin 2.

My boyfriend's Mother decided to celebrate her birthday in "style" by bringing all the family (and me) out to dinner in Peacock Alley. The service was good, with the exception of one incredibly condescending drinks waitress. This was completely overshadowed by the disgusting starters that were proffered. I ordered the langoustine and saffron risotto, as did three other people at the table. The risotto was completely undercooked and the langoustines were not fresh. Although they were fresh enough not to give me food poisoning, for which I was thankful. I ordered the lamb to follow. Two other people were brave enough to venture this choice, much to their chagrin.

I don't know much about different cuts of meat, but I have a funny feeling that the lamb we recieved was probably the cheapest part of the lamb. I asked for it pink, and what they gave me was red. It took me the guts of ten minutes to chew one mouthful of this lamb. I'm sure this can't be right. There was also a dollop of tomato puree (of the dolmio variety) sitting on a blob of polenta. Both of which did nothing to compliment anything on the plate. Everybody complained about their food. It was really appalling. What makes it even more appalling are the prices that they feel entitled to charge. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying if I feel that the meal is deserving. But I really don't know how Conrad Gallagher sleeps at night.

On the night, I didn't want to complain, as it was someone else's birthday and not really my place to say anything. However, I have had this in my craw since, and needed to address it. I hope you don't mind me voicing my opinion. I just felt that The Food and Wine Net might make Peacock Alley sit up and take notice.
